NOTICE FROM SIDNEY ISD 

NEW TEXAS LAW PROHIBITS STUDENT USE OF PERSONAL DEVICES

House Bill 1481 was passed during the 89th Texas Legislative Session and signed into law by Governor Abbott as part of a statewide initiative to promote focused learning environments, reduce distractions in classrooms, and limit cyberbullying and social media misuse during school hours.

The law takes effect for the 2025-2026 school year and requires public school districts across the state to prohibit students from using personal electronic communication devices that can send or receive data on school property during the school day, including during passing periods and at lunch.

This includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Cell Phones

  • Smart Watches

  • Fitness Trackers with messaging capabilities

  • Bluetooth Earbuds or Headphones

  • Tablets and Personal Computers

  • Gaming Devices

  • Two-Way Radios

  • Pagers

  • Any other device capable of telecommunication or digital communication 

    Students will continue to use district-issued devices for instructional purposes.                            Sidney ISD currently has a student device policy in place, however we are working on revising the policy to better align with the new legal requirements in HB 1481 for the 2025–2026 school year. Additional details will be shared relating to the new policy as it develops.

Title IX/Non-Discrimination

Statement of Non-Discrimination (Student)
The District prohibits discrimination, including harassment, against any student on the basis of
race, color, religion, sex, gender, national origin, age, disability, or any other basis prohibited by
law. The District prohibits dating violence, as defined by this policy. Retaliation against anyone
involved in the complaint process is a violation of District policy and is prohibited FFH (LOCAL).
 
Statement of Non-Discrimination (Employee)
The District prohibits discrimination, including harassment, against any employee on the basis
of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other basis prohibited by law.
Retaliation against anyone involved in the complaint process is a violation of District policy and
is prohibited DIA (LOCAL).

Grievances can be filed with Sidney ISD by using the procedures established

by the Sidney ISD district policy.  FNG(Local)

Sidney ISD takes continuous steps to notify participants, beneficiaries, applicants, parents, employees (including those with impaired vision or hearing), other interested parties, and unions or professional organizations holding collective bargaining or professional agreements with the district that it does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age.
