Policy & Leadership
The proper and ethical use of computers, software and related networks is required at Sidney School. The school works to create an intellectual environment in which students, faculty and staff are free to create and to collaborate with colleagues, both local and at other institutions, without fear that the products of their intellectual efforts will be violated by misrepresentations, tampering, destruction, theft or other misuse and abuse. As a condition of use of all school information technology facilities, all users must abide by copyright laws and the terms and conditions of the license.
When in doubt, do not copy software and files!
Statement of purpose:
*Sidney School will assure the teaching of keyboarding technology to elementary/junior high grades and reestablish the vision of technology education for all students at Sidney ISD.
*Focus on learning rather than technology.
*Utilize technology to enhance educational experiences for students such as virtual field trips and other projects not available in our community.
*Integrate various technology activities such as student portfolios, newsletters, and teacher websites.
*Update the district technology plan. It is a living document and must reflect the district’s vision. Update and revise the district policies pertaining to network etiquette and Internet use in a document such as the Acceptable Use Policy.
*Provide time for teachers to teach and students to learn and professional development.
Copyright Compliance
Sidney School is responsible for discussing with users issues of privacy, copyright infringements, e-mail etiquette, computer viruses, and intended use of the internet
resources.
Users have the responsibility to keep copyrighted software of any kind from entering the school via the internet or any other means.
Copyright Compliance dictates that:
1. Active teaching activities permit the display of copyrighted materials in classrooms and places devoted to instruction.
2. Downloading a web page and storing it in an offline browser requires obtaining permission from the webmaster.
(e-mailing is a good way to seek permission and keep a record of correspondence)
3. Copyrighted materials to be pasted unto a web page or into a multimedia project also requires obtaining permission. Always credit your sources.
